I booked a half-day excursion with Captain Russell Tharin while vacationing on Amelia Island. Conditions were not good for fly fishing so we used light spinning tackle, jigging rubber shrimp with 10lb test line. Our technique was to let the jig sink to bottom, then give two quick upward jerks of rod, reeling in slack line, always keeping rod tip up and pointed at bait. My guide offered up some good advise that should prove effective on Walleye back home. Caught numerous fish, including an 8lb redfish, bluefish, and spotted seatrout. Dolphins were seen feeding. This was my first successful tidal marsh flats fishing experience, thanks to Russell and his wife Janet (FlyFishingAmeliaIsland.com), and the first of sixty rivers to be fished in 2007.
Weather: 50 degrees, overcast, winds 5-10
